Trend: Scandinavian design has a big influence on the world

Every six months Oke Nollet head of the Pergo design department gathers all her impressions and influences from design fairs, Pinterest activity and everyday life into an extensive trend report. One of those trends is very clear: imperfect is still perfect.

The fresh, clean and modern style of the Scandinavian design has a big influence on the world. Big Scandinavian brands leave a mark on the interior trends. They introduce colors and patterns that are picked up by the rest of the world.

Inspired by the 50’s there is a revival of the pastels, from pink to mint green. For a soft look it is often combined with white and light natural woodspecies.

The 60’s & 70’s bring back the warm earth tones with yellow, orange rust and browns

The 60’s & 70’s bring back the warm earth tones with yellow, orange rust and browns. The warm colors and geometric and floral patterns from the 70’s are visible today in the green living trend. Wooden furniture and wooden flooring are colored from warm natural to brown.

The scandinavians love the contrast of black & white. Today we see that black is taking the lead. Big brands are using black in different hues. In combination with light natural wood you create a very scandinavian effect. For a neutral effect in your interior greys are very important. Greys in different shades are the color to combine with!

We detect also the return of the 80’s, called the Memphis trend. Remember the geometric shapes & big volumes. The colorblocking in primary colors, neons and bright pastels fit perfect with light and natural wood.
